For our inaugural session, most of the time was spent on character creation, with an opening scene and a compact at the end. Players:
Jon – Suha the Psyker
Ian – Galitea the Heretek
Trevor – Von Sydow the Apostate
Mark – Adan the Forsaken
Tim – Threevius the Champion
Aaron – Skeep the Chosen
Starting with the characters living in the Guts section of Velklir (the ghetto where non-sorcerers and foreigners are confined by the good citizens of that city) Adan was summoned to the office of Palmyra Grath, a well known trader who deals in Imperial wares as well as other commodities throughout the Screaming Vortex. She requested that he appear with his warband to entertain an offer she had for him.
After some brief introductions, Grath, who appears as a beautiful woman surrounded by an ungodly stench behind a scrim of gauze, offers Adan the location of a Chaos artifact known as the Tyrant’s Cord, which she had her minions take from the planet Pyulrutide but lose on the warp-battered planet of Sacgrave when her crew’s ship crashed there. After several unsuccessful attempts to retrieve it, Grath has given up and chooses to sell the location of the artifact to Adan, knowing him to be capable (and perhaps foolhardy) enough to think he can retrieve it.
After considering several arrangements, the party decides to “owe her a favor” in order to get the coordinates of the crashed ship, and thereby track the Tyrant’s Cord. In doing so, they avoid any loss of infamy or any side-jobs to procure souls- all except the Apostate, who spends an infamy to bypass any debt to Grath.
Each gives some blood in a vial for her to cast her binding charm on, and they are given the rough location of the crash as well as the frequency at which to track it. The characters leave and back at Adan’s tent in the Dregs tent-shanty section of the Guts, they finish their compact:
Primary objective: To secure the Tyran’ts Cord
Secondary: To survive Sacgrave
Secondary: To gain the respect and fear of those they meet there.
Secondary: To defeat any other rivals for the Cord.
Von Sydow – find the Fire Scarabs that are the ingredients of a powerful aphrodesiac lost to known chemistry.
Suha- eat the heart of an Ork
Galitea- Use medicae on crashed crew— whether alive or dead
Atan- learn something useful about Palmyra Grath
Threevius – experience and learn from the upper tunnels of Sacgrave, built by the legendary sorcerer-kings of that world.
Skeep- Record the death rattle of one of his colleagues
